Looking Back One Year After I Quit My Job and Started The Boardr

All I knew was that things had irreversibly changed where I was and I had to move on and join up with Clements and Porpe who had left months earlier. It was a scary move with a kid on the way and no real plans. That was one year ago today. A lot of things have gone down since then. How about a recap? Let's start with a few high level numbers. As you know, I'm attracted to the digits.

Innoskate at Polk Museum in Lakeland for Go Skateboarding Day

It was a beautiful day to be both a skate rat and skate nerd today in the City of Lakeland for Go Skateboarding Day. The Smithsonian, Polk Museum of Art, and IASC teamed up for the Innoskate program and taught us all new things, regardless of your new or seasoned veteran status as a lifelong skateboarder. I've got my story in photos below as usual along with HiDefJoe's edit of a new episode of On The Boardr.

It's super good to see how Innoskate is getting more and more people interested in not just skateboarding itself, but how it works, how it has evolved, its history, and more. The Kimberley Diamond Cup crew caught up with The Boardr Head Judge Jason Rothmeyer about his trips to South Africa for the KDC there. If you check out Jason's Instagram, you'll see he's into shooting photos of all animals except humans. Check out a minute of 90's tricks and random varmits he snapped. The City of Lakeland Officially Gets It in Skateboarding

The City of Lakeland has officially proclaimed the weekend of Go Skateboarding Day this year as a Skateboard Friendly City Weekend. On Saturday, June 21, at Innoskate, we'll be pushing through the City of Lakeland from Lake Bonny Skatepark to the Polk Museum of Art, where we'll see Rodney Mullen and Paul Schmitt break down skateboarding and their history with it. I hope you caught all that on ESPN for the Street Finals for both men and women. It was a fun and ripping afternoon of skateboarding here in Austin, Texas. After Grant Taylor skipped town and gave up his spot in the cut to Alec Majerus who had just missed it yesterday, I was certain he was going to take it today. Then Nyjah came with new tricks and of course his usual bag of destruction. Get the full week's results here. Congrats Nyjah, Lacey, and Pedro for gold in Street and Park this year.

adidas Skate Copa Atlanta Shops Recap

Plus and SPoT both have edits done from the Atlanta stop of the adidas Skate Copa series. They were the last two shops in the Finals brackets where SPoT ended up winning. We'll see them in LA at The Berrics for the Finals. Also, over at The Berrics, they've got their three edits from the Atlanta stop. The next Skate Copa is next weekend in Austin, Texas at House Park.

HiDefJoe comes in with another episode of On The Boardr documenting the shred here at X Games Austin. I've got a few skate photos, and Porpe runs the nightlife at the Monster party where Joey Badass did a small private show that I didn't know about prior to making my decision to stay in. Stupid. Moral of the story kids: always go out and party. You never know what you're going to miss.

X Games 2014 Skaters

This year at X Games, we're taking an initial step into top am skateboarding with the first X Games Am. We complied the input from key people in the skateboarding industry like magazine editors and other influential skaters to get a short list of 12 top ams to have in this one. Then when we discovered how many of them can't make it, we return to the drawing board to rearrange. Repeat that process like five times and you're at this list of 12 confirmed rippers below. The process for Park and Pro Street works in a similar way. Watch for more on our plans for am skateboarding after we get through an already packed summer of good times at all these skateboarding gatherings. X Games 2014 Course and Arrival in Austin

On Sunday after adidas Skate Copa ATL, we drove straight from Atlanta to Austin where we arrived at around midnight to get to work on X Games Austin this week. I've got a few photos of the course and our short night out last night in downtown Austin. It's going to be a week of ripping rolling and top quality chill time in this fun city and skateboard shindig that includes a show with Kanye, Mac Miller, The Flaming Lips, and more. Maryland Am at Charm City Skatepark in Baltimore

Jason Chapman invited us up to Baltimore to check out his skate park and scene that he's been part of since 1994 when Charm City Skatepark started. The park's second home in that time is now in an old paintball warehouse. It's huge, has a vert ramp, and more wood than a forest. Today, Jason ran his Maryland Am Contest that we helped run with The Boardr Live, our scoring app that we run our events with. Baltimore is an interesting city with some good skateboarding. We should make it part of our long term plans. More on that later. As usual, my story is in the photos below.
Grind for Life Series at Ramp 48 in Fort Lauderdale

This past weekend was very eventful for the skateboarding world. Street League Pro Open went down in Los Angeles, most of The Boardr crew was in Las Vegas for the Zappos Rideshop and Mr. Grind for Life himself, Mike Rogers, was in Orange County, California for the Vans Pool Party. But the most important event of the weekend was the Grind for Life Series at Ramp 48 in Ft. Lauderdale. Here are the photos, videos, and results.

Arrival in Las Vegas for Zappos Rideshop Series

HiDefJoe, Clements, and I are in Las Vegas for the final finishing touches this week on the Zappos Ride Shop Series on Friday at 4pm on Las Vegas Boulevard and Fremont Street. Today we visited Big Al and Mean Gene putting together the obstacles and then conducted a field study of the event site. That included freak shows with everything Vegas you'd expect, with no open container laws and the easiest access to sinning you could possibly imagine.
X Games Real Street Voting Starts Today

Today voting starts in the X Games Real Street Contest. Each of these 16 pros filmed a one minute part that just dropped today. Judges determine who goes home with nearly a thousand bucks a second. Yep, someone's getting $50k for first. For the Fan Favorite popularity contest, it's up to you. There's $10k up for grabs for who gets the most Tweeted votes. Your Tweet needs to contain three things: the pro's last name hastagged, the #RealStreet hashtag, and @XGames. Grind for Life Fort Lauderdale Stop on May 17

On May 17th in Fort Lauderdale is the next stop of the Grind for Life Series here in Florida. We're two stops in now and have the GFL leaderboard stats for each division here. Your top two events in the series count for your final score where we'll all high five and hang out at The Boardr Headquarters on November 22nd.
