The Copenhagen Project
Published 11/16/2013 by Rob Meronek
Our friends and partners in the Copenhagen Pro that introduced so many American skateboarders to the happiest country in the world are proud to present The Copenhagen Project that will premiere in LA next month. It stars Shane O'Neill, Ishod Wair, Peter Ramondetta, Sam Beckett, Arto Saari, and more. A film by What Youth in collaboration with Monster Energy, it covers Copenhagen and all the wonderful mayhem that swirls the city during the annual Copenhagen Pro. This paragraph from What Youth sums it up pretty nicely:
Denmark is the happiest country in the world. It's clean, orderly and everything works. It’s fun, efficient and beautiful. It’s enough to make you roll your eyes at times. It's that good. It is home to world’s greatest restaurant. It is both ancient and modern. The women are beautiful. Men are cordial. College is free. And it is home to Tivoli Gardens, the amusement park that inspired Walt f'ing Disney. And oddly enough it’s the site of the world’s raddest skateboarding gathering: The Copenhagen Pro.

There aren't many events out there that remind me of how we used to run Tampa Pro. Copenhagen Pro is one of those. It's just loose and chill with ripping skating, raging nightlife, and big smile hospitality. I've got a bunch of photos and sequences as usual.

Copenhagen Streets

We're in Copenhagen once a year when the skateboarding world comes together at Copenhagen Pro. As you've seen from all the coverage, it's a great city with everything you need as a pusher of the wood and wheels: great skate spots, happy ass people, nightlife that lasts through noon the next day, and more. Get a sample of street shred going on outside of that party week from Hjalte Halberg, Jonas Skrøder, Laurent Gehin, Emil Hvilsom, and more in this Kingpin video they just put out. I'm still not convinced it's the last year of Copenhagen Pro. More on that later.

I read this article in Time a few years back, where they surveyed people of different nations around the world, and Denmark had the happiest, most content citizens. The country was dubbed 'the happiest place on earth.'
The Finals at Copenhagen Pro 2013

The Finals at Copenhagen Pro are always some of the best skating you'll see all year. The mix of skaters that come to this contest is so diverse and unlike any other contest, which is why we started referring to it as the Tampa Pro of Europe years ago. I hope you where here, but if not, I've got a cell phone edit and photos for you.
