First Session on the Red Curb

Published 1/6/2015 by Rob Meronek

Once Kyle Berard poured and set it, we patiently waited while it cured and Casey lathered layer after layer of red. Finally, it's ready for trucks. HiDefJoe documented the build and what it costs and takes for you to do this yourself if you've got the space. I've also got a few sequences to cap it off.

Photos

Bob Freeman FSNS

Bob's got a full four frames of scrapage on the rarely seen slappy front noseslide.

Frank Branca Fire Hydrant Snap

Filmer Frank with Filmer Joe. Frank's in the new dad club. Joe's in the old dad club.

Porpe Fire Hydrant Snap

Porpe's activities on the baller courts may be helping with his snaps on the board.

Ryan Clements Manual on the Curb

Ryan's on his two front wheels as usual.

Holly Slappy Noseslides the Red Curb

Holly works with us on the Excel Management side of things here at The Boardr HQ.

Jata Kickflips the Fire Hydrant

Chris Jata - kickflip.

HiDefJoe Frontside Grinds the Red Curb

HiDefJoe is young enough to be excluded from the slappy rule.

Justin Frontside Tailslides the Red Curb

Justin is our Buyer for The Boardr Store.

Seamus Willy Grinds the Red Curb

Seamus works with us on the Excel Management side, too. I like how it's an easy recovery with a Willy grind when slappy goes wrong.

The Frame for the Red Curb

When Kyle Berard first laid down the frame for the red curb, it was ear to ear smiles around here.

Angle for the Red Curb

The curb is at a 95 degree angle for that five degrees of extra help you might need in your old slappy age.

The Curb Cut for the Red Curb

The base of the curb cut that will send you over the fire hydrant.

The Wacker for the Red Curb

A giant vibrator called the Wacker? Yep, it shakes up the concrete and makes it set smooth or something like that.

Casey Jackhammers the Red Curb

Casey's chiseling away the ground for the curb cut so the concrete doesn't break up at the base like you see at a lot of DIY spots. The base needs to be one solid section of concrete so it doesn't chip away at the super thing parts. I got this basic knowledge from Kyle Berard.

Kyle Berard on the Concrete Truck

Kyle's got the concrete truck barely scraping into The Boardr TF.

HiDefJoe on the Concrete Truck

HiDefJoe's on the documentation.

The Concrete Truck Pours the Red Curb

Spread the concrete thin.

Justin Ryan Smooths the Red Curb

We all have smiles as big as Justin as we wait for this thing to cure.

An Official Bid'niss Milestone for The Boardr

It's been a fun few months of building a company from scratch. Today, we set an accounting formality and officially started The Boardr payroll. The first four employees are Ryan Clements, Jorge Angel aka Porpe, Bob Freeman, and Rob Meronek behind the lens here. I wonder how long this is going to last? I would guess 2013 to infinity. Thank you for the support, thanks skateboarding for everything else, and here's to 2014! That other document Ryan is holding is another piece of important sentiment for us that I'll address in another post. I just wanted to have it in this memorable photo and early milestone.

There's so much going on here from events planning to systems work to physical buildout to financial stuff to skate park ideas that I can't even keep track of where I'm at and what I've documented. We're working smart and steady here still putting our 2014 together while I pause here for an update. Our tenants in the other half of our warehouse are now out so we can start figuring out what will work for our facility to play with our skateboards in.

Another Milestone at The Boardr: TF Construction Begins

Now that we've got some time to stop and breathe from having one big event behind us (NYC) and another one just about complete (Vegas), we can finally start dedicating some attention to the homefront. Yep, it's another baby milestone for us here at The Boardr. Today starts construction on our TF! We're going slow and calculated as usual with this project, too. I don't know my physical construction tools very well, but I do know there are some things in this photo that indicate concrete. Damnnnn, it's on. Feels like we're finally getting furniture in an empty home. Right now all I have for you is this one single photo.
