Skate By Numbers: Creating a Custom Point of Sale and Inventory Management App
Published 11/30/2013 by Rob Meronek
I've got more nerdness coming at you in another edition of Skate by Numbers. I'm in the middle of writing a complete Inventory Management, Point of Sale, and fully integrated Webstore app for The Boardr right now. I did something similar at my last job, but this time around, I get to implement all the things I learned running online and shop retail for the last 12 years. We'll be packing this up for you to use in your own shop when I'm done with it all. Maybe we'll be using this whole thing for our own shop soon, too. All of us here at The Boardr miss retail. More on that later.
Some of the early steps and features to create in a large system like this are the processes of creating a product, adding SKU's to it, shooting the photos for it, sizing them, uploading them, then checking the inventory into stock through preparing a purchase order. Sounds like a ton of work, right? Nah, I think we've made it pretty simple and quick. In this video I cover the whole process where I'll show you how we've made it super easy to get a product from UPS's delivery truck to your website with the quickness. Pardon my super ugly interface design, draft store-front, and pretty ugly product photos. I'll have that all cleaned up later.

Skate by Numbers: Planning a Contest Format with an Element of Time
9/20/2013
Let me warn you, this article and this new feature I'm starting called Skate by Numbers is nerdy, grow'd up, and bid'niss as hell. No Surprise: Skateboarding Climbing the Hip Hop Charts
5/7/2014
I have 25+ years of rap lyrics memorized that you can get spilling from my lungs with just a small percentage of alcohol in my blood. It's been an interesting unfolding over those two plus decades watching that other thing I'm into mesh cultures with hip hop. Today I was cleaning up some of my digital memory banks and ran some key words through Rap Genius' Rap Stats tool. They catalog all these words in hip hop lyrics and created a tool that plots the useage of words in lyrics over the years. Are you surprised by the growth of skateboarding? I wonder if the sketchy skateboarding industry has seen the same growth in their numbers. In regular popsicle stick boards, my guess is no.

The Boardr Live 2014 Stats: 4,000+ Skateboarder Profiles
12/19/2014
The Boardr Live is our live and instant scoring software that is used at most of the skateboarding events we run. Zumiez, Vans, adidas, Cowtown, and other friends in the industry also use it to make their events run smooth and integrate with live TV and web broadcasts. I dove into the numbers to get some end of the year stats on the 4,000+ skater profiles that were created and/or updated. We've got pros, ams, and former pros in our database which throws the pro/am percentage total off a bit, FYI.
