Zephyrhills Skatepark Grand Opening

Posted by Rob Meronek on Tuesday, February 3, 2015

I hope every town gets to cut the ribbon on a nice Team Pain built park like Zephyrhills just opened up this weekend. We were there hosting the ceremonies and have a photos and video recap below.

I was amazed to see how many kids were using this rail to learn basic boardslides. This kid here just landed his first legit one. Remember that phase in your skate life? Being a super old skateboarder, I can tell you that feeling continues well into your 40's if you don't ever quit.

Has anyone who doesn't skate themselves ever designed a proper skateboarder silhouette? I don't think so. All good though, we get the point, this is a skateboard spot and it's super good.

Lipslides have low sack risk on this rail.

In Zephyrhills, they are probably not aware that camo pants is a trend. Here, they are probably no more of a trend than pants themselves, they're a staple.

The Boardr local Mike Wiegner was here.

Justin manned our first run of The Boardr Pop Up Store. We learned a lot on this one and will set up where it's appropriate and not stepping on other stores' territories. It was cool to see how many new skateboarders were there. When we were out of completes, kids were asking if we had more.

John Montesi and the Westside Skate Shop crew were there ripping.

I wonder if those scissors would cut grip tape.

Body needs bigger snippers than that to handle that mane.

We were all hoping he wouldn't decide to try to actually stand on it.

The turnout was nice. What is James Cobb doing? Early grabbing for something?

Thanks to all you parents backing your kids pushing the wood and wheels. It's the best thing that ever happened to all of us here.

I imagine these kids just crawled out of an underground pipe like Salba to discover this secret spot in the desert. It's actually right behind the skatepark. Maybe a board stopper down there?

Damn, Eric kills it. Going into that steep bank makes a hardflip that much harder.

Manny could have rode this home. Thanks to everyone at the Grand Opening and thanks to Team Pain and the city of Zephyrhills for having us.

One last one from a pit stop for food in Zephyrhills. I had breakfast for $3.99 here with scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, and sausage. When they told me the price, I said, "I had a coffee, too." It comes with coffee! Nicest people in the world here. I can't remember the name of the place, though. It's right down the street from the Skatepark. Stop by on your way.
