Skate Stuff is all the random little posts I do while lurking the internet checking out skateboarding stuff where I add my two cents of banter. Every now and then after a few posts stack up, I'll throw together a summary like this.
Ben Raybourn: Young Man With an Old Soul: If you haven't been skateboarding for two or three decades like most of the people running skate companies and writing about skateboarding, I want to fill you in on some history.
Asphalt Yacht Club Sails the Southwest: AYC is putting together a video of the team and their trip through the Southwest. In the meantime, we get a preview with some slo mo from Stefan Janoski, Riley Hawk, Stevie Williams, Blake Carpenter, Ben Nordberg, Derrick Wilson, and Nyjah Huston. Oh and Jaws in there? Check back on Feb 3 for the video.
Ishod Wair Chronicles 2 Full Part: Ishod's Chronicles 2 part is now online. Notice the little things, like his slappy crooked grind - on a knee high ledge.
Invisible Mini-Ramp Hidden in Plain Sight: This almost reminds me of Yeah Right. In this short commercial from Nomad Skateboards out of Spain, check out how they blended some ramps right into the city.
Picomano Interview and Footage: I met Picomano from Brazil last year through email and doing contest registration. Google Translate helped us communicate as usual. When we finally got to meet in person, I could see that he and his crew of homies greatly appreciated the chance to be in America around the skateboarding scene here.
Justin Brock's Chronicles 2 Part: Justin's part in Chronicles 2 was my favorite in that video. The Minor Threat track was perfect to go with his raw and fast skating. King sized hauling ass nollie big spins, grasshopper jumps from banks to skyscraper height perches, and that ender with the nollie flip into the crust are worth a rewatch. Nike just put his fill part online.
Daryl Angel Chronicles 2 Full Part: I first met Daryl Angel way way back in 2002 when he skated an am contest we were running. Out of 108 skaters that day, he placed 105th. Sometimes it just happens that way for your first big contest. Maybe you're over it, maybe the butterflies kicked in, maybe you're just not a contest skater and your TM asked to you be in it, maybe you were in your party phase. Today, Daryl Angel is pro for Habitat and destroying it in skateboarding. Nike just recently released his Chronicles 2 part online. Have a rewatch!
Behind the Scenes with Baker and Deathwish in Boston in 2011: Elliott Vecchia has some damn good behind the scenes footage from the streets of Boston when the Baker and Deathwish teams came through back in 2001. Catch Andrew Reynolds, Bryan Herman,Dustin Dollin, Dee Ostrander, Justin Figgy Figueroa, Moose, Theotis Beasley, andJon Dickson in this one.
Normal People Falling on Skateboards Will Make Your Day: So earlier I posted a skateboarding cat video, now I'm onto a "fail" video. Wow, we're sinking to a new low in content today. This video of people eating doo doo on skateboards is pretty damn good, though. The opener with the dude getting speed wobbles on a long board and nearly losing his life before going scorpion in the bushes is worth it alone.
Skateboarding Cat Hippie Jumps Dog: The internet and your mom is straight up LOL over this cat that pretty much puts all those dog skateboarding videos to shame.
Austyn Gillette Uncut: My severe immaturity makes me immediately think of a Euro anteater penis when I hear Austyn Uncut. This however, is raw Street League footage of Austyn. Actually, all footage of Austyn is raw. Them ladies in the crowd go just as crazy for Austyn as the ladies in his nightlife.
We Miss You Lewis: It's been a year since we lost Lewis Marnell. Almost and Thrasher have a tribute video where Cooper Wilt, Daewon Song, Rodney Mullen, Chris Haslam, and Willow discuss their favorite stories about Lewis.
Brandon Westgate's Emerica B Sides: Wow, this is 13 minutes of damn good raw skateboarding from Brandon Westgate. That heelflip over the SF stairs in the beginning is so sick. It closes with the attempts on that 360 flip out of the ditch.
Gilbert Crockett Vans Pro Model Shoe: Gilbert Crockett explains what went into his new pro model Vans shoe followed by some ripping footage and bluegrass. Congrats on the new shoe, Gilbert.
A Look Into the Making of Zero's Cold War Video: Lannie Rhoades takes you around behind the cameras for a glimpse into what it's like putting together a video like Cold War with some interview questions about everything from the worst slam to the gnarliest trick.
Unreleased TJ Rogers Damn Footage: Unreleased is just a synonym for throw away but this is good throw away since it's TJ Rogers. You want to recycle that throw away.
Donovon Piscopo's Full Part from SB Chronicles 2: I've been lucky enough to watch Donovon Piscopo grow up skating at all these contests we've done over the last decade. It was nice to see him have the opening part in the Chronicles 2 video. Nike just dropped it online here.
Shane O'Neill Full Part from SB Chronicles 2: That intro was awesome and that ender, damn. Switch flip backside tailslide to switch backside 270 heelflip out? Mind explosion.
Theotis Beasley Full Part from Chronicles 2: Nike SB is posting all the parts from SB Chronicles 2. Check Theotis Beasley here. It's his second censored music part. I come from a time where skateboarding was a lot smaller than that. Not complaining, just noting the difference. Yeah, Theotis!
Riley Hawk's Cartoon Splat: I don't watch these Thrasher Hall of Meat videos because I can't watch how gnar some of them are, but this one i had to check just based on the thumbnail. Riley Hawk has full cartoon character splat on this long smith grind to vertical face plant. It's not bad at all and good for a laugh.
