Sound Check and Prep at Lakeland Skatepark for the Contest Next Weekend
Published 2/23/2014 by Rob Meronek
We stopped by Lakeland Skatepark today to do a sound check and a general planning session to prep for the first stop of the Grind for Life Series Street and Bowl Contests there this Saturday, March 1. The Bowl Contests are in the flow bowl and the street contests are in the main street course section. We're hyped on The Body back on the mic with Ryan Clements joining Porpe and I on the lens and registration. On that day, we will also announce a new full time addition to The Boardr staff that will complete our A-Team crew of skateboard shindig organizers and all that. We're still building our 2014 and things are looking nice. I hope your year is coming together as nicely. I've got a few photos from the short time we were there today.

On the way back, we stopped at a contest going on today that we used to do. We borrowed the Shop vs Shop concept from MIA and added to the format of allowing a shop owner or TM to join the jam, then added the bracketing system to the Finals for it. We should do that again except maybe like on a national level where we divide the country into regions for the qualifiers and have a big finals somewhere out in California. We'll see. Anyway, John Montesi was there doing one of my favorite street plants that I never learned, the ho ho plant.
The Editor is taking The Mag all cutting edge and putting sequences on. Remember when magazines used to do that? This is Drew Hasselhoff and we'll see him shredding next Saturday. Register on site or right here online.

We're still lining up plans for a big ol' am series and all that, but while we figure that plan out, we went ahead and set up an easy one. We're proud to announce that Grind for Life has teamed up with us to bring an all ages/skills series contest to our home state of Florida this year. Each one is a street and a bowl contest except for the last one at The Boardr Headquarters. The Grind for Life Series in Association with The Boardr has five stops set at various parks all around the state.
Lakeland Skatepark Innoskate 2014 Planning

The Boardr crew was recently in Lakeland for a meeting with city officials and representatives from the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. to discuss an event involving the Lakeland Skatepark and the Polk Museum of Art. Innoskate 2013 was an event at the Smithsonian that brought a lot of attention to skateboarding, its influence on culture, and its amazing evolution over the last several decades. The event we're working on in Lakeland will highlight and celebrate a lot of the same things. While we met at the Lakeland Skatepark early that morning, I shot a few photos of everything there. Team Pain and the Lakeland locals that helped design it did a great job with this Park. What's wrong with Tampa and why don't we have something like this already? It's because something got old and forgotten about, then suddenly ended up being a roadblock to progression. I hope our city can work through that mess and get us out of 1970's skateboarding soon. If you're trying to go to Lakeland Skatep

Grind for Life Series at Ramp 48 in Fort Lauderdale

This past weekend was very eventful for the skateboarding world. Street League Pro Open went down in Los Angeles, most of The Boardr crew was in Las Vegas for the Zappos Rideshop and Mr. Grind for Life himself, Mike Rogers, was in Orange County, California for the Vans Pool Party. But the most important event of the weekend was the Grind for Life Series at Ramp 48 in Ft. Lauderdale. Here are the photos, videos, and results.
