10 Pieces of Flamboyant Skateboarding Gear

Published 1/15/2015 by Rob Meronek

Did you see our collection of all black shoes and all white shoes? In between those two extremes is quite a variety. In this collection, we're leaning towards the flamboyant. Loud and proud is not for everyone and it takes a special character to pull it off right, but those that do are some of the most entertaining personalities in skateboarding. We pulled together some of our favorite wacky items from The Boardr Store so you can kickstart your standout in skateboarding. All black shoes certainly aren't going to do it.

1: Penny Nickel Cruiser Board, Color: Tie Dye

First up, your skateboard itself. 8.25" 52mm wheels with Indy's on a popsicle stick? Cookie. Cutter. Come rolling through with this Penny tie dye plastic plank straight from the 70's with four different color wheels. After you kick off your all black boring shoes into the trash bin, run it barefoot to complete the look. If you rip, you still got a good 360 flip on this thing. Maybe you'll bring back the gorilla grip, too.

2: RIPNDIP Bell Hat, Color: Aqua

Anything less than 100% flamboyant generally isn't going to work. You have to go in head to toe or you're just going to look off balance. The bucket hat I think might be one of the exceptions to that rule. This RIPNDIP lid, however, is not a bucket. It's a Bell Hat with the print straight from the shuffleboard court of a 55+ mobile home park in Florida. Complete the flamboyant look or have it be just the single piece you use with your standard all black Tampa kit.

3: Happy Hour Shades Mucho Relaxo T Shirt, Color: Tie Dye

Double tie dye? Yes, go all in on hippy and run this Happy Hour Mucho Relaxo shirt with that Penny you're rolling and make sure to set the statement that you're on this tie die thing not because you haven't done laundry, but because it's a lifestyle to you. Skate or tie dye.

4: RIPNDIP C.R.E.A.M Pillow

CREAM = Cats Rule Everything Around Me. Can you believe cats ended up inheriting the internet? Cat videos and memes are responsible for entire industries forming as the internet matured over the last 10 years and probably made more people millionares than oil. We have a RIPNDIP cat pillow. If you're flamboyant in public, you need to keep it real at home, too. This is your throw pillow.

5: Emerica The Herman G6 Vulc Shoes, Color: Light Blue

Does Herman really wear these or does he have a distant cousin from Jersey? That is one amazing combo of gum sole and flamboyant colors right there. Red and turquoise together are usually seen only on cartoon characters or a super hero. When people gear check your flaymboyance from head to toe, these Herman G6's will complete their eye's journey down your wacky pant leg.

6: Primitive Delta Sweat Joggers, Color: Green

Speaking of wacky pant leg, we got Primitive's Sweat Joggers as worn by The Boardr Store chief, Bob Freeman. Floral grew onto the scene in skateboarding last year and continues into the woods, or something, with this print that could be your aunt's Saturday night BINGO kit. Put down a line in your next video part in these and you'll be stacking YouTube comments and shares like a cat video.

7: Primitive Delta Crew Neck Sweatshirt, Color: Green

When your bottom half is that far out, no top half will do, not even tie dye, unless it equally matches those bottoms. Bob knows this and steps out with the complete Primitive kit to include the top. This Primitive Crew Neck Sweatshirt goes right over your tie dye.

8: Toy Machine Sect Eye Stripe Socks, Color: Pink, Blue

If you want to go flamboyant to the core, you need to get all the way down to the last detail, that being your socks. Socks are the new way to dress up these days, so if you're going wacky, you need to step it up, like maybe some pink with purple stripes and and a Toy Machine eye.

9: adidas Dennis Busenitz Signature Shoes, Color: Solar Blue, Running White, Metallic Gold

I think The Busenitz Signature shoe is one of the best skate shoes out there. You still need to function while you're flamboying about town. How about a turquoiseish blue colorway in Dennis' shoe? It's called Solar Blue.

10: NB# Brighton Shoes, Color: Fair Green, Solar Yellow

Did you see that recent New Balance video Russel Haughton made? That was some amazing cinema work. Anyway, New Balance is killing it with the team, their media, and the shoes themselves, as they're some of the most comfortable skate shoes out. This colorway in the Brighton will have you far out of your psychological comfort zone. That is, until you've completed your crossover to skateboard flamboyance. Thanks for browsing some of our louder gear in The Boardr Store. His us up with any questions at Help@TheBoardr.com. Change your font to pink Comic Sans before emailing us.

Five All Black on Black on Black Everything Shoes

Black shoes have always been the most popular in skateboarding. Nothing is 'the new black' except black. Now, black from ankle to ground is one step further, as most black shoes have a white or gum sole. I must admit, I've never gone black to the ground. Maybe it's because it reminds me of my days waiting tables? I don't know, but looking through this list of six supermassive black holes you can put on your feet and shred in has me thinking I might just go for my first pair of black rubber touching black grip.

The all white shoe isn't for everyone. I've had a soft spot for the pure whites since early teens when three things started to consume my life and never stopped: skateboarding, hip hop, and sneakers. I've got a few cloud kickers picked out for you to shred in here. It's fine if they get crusty while skating, but if you step on them, it's over.

We hope our friends up north are surviving the big white out up there.
