Detroit, Skateboarding, Art, and Community

Watching the story of Ride It Sculpture Park in Detroit unfold over the years has been a demonstration of two powerful things, the Detroit community and skateboarding. When I was there in 2012, I was fortunate to see it first hand and got to meet some locals in both the skate and art communities. Recently, Tony Hawk was there to contribute a grant from his foundation. Ride Channel has the recap.
Another movement in Detroit that's shaping up right now for summer 2014 is Assemble. The crew over there is working to get funding and a permanent site for an annual festival style event that will include a top pro and am contest. Find out more about Assemble here. The Boardr will be partnering up with Assemble for the skateboarding portion and all the digital fun that comes with it.
