Recap: Vans Park Series at Serra Negra

Posted by Rob Meronek on Monday, April 10, 2017

Serra Nega, Brazil was the second Global Qualifiers stop of the season where Pedro blew the trees out of the jungle in all three of his runs. Any one of his first three runs in the Finals could have been the first place run. Pedro was unstoppable in Brazil again.

Also at this stop was the Brazilian National Championships where we got a good reminder of just how much raw talent exists in Brazil. Photos below are a sample of the ripping skating and great times we all had outside of the contest in the beautiful small town of Serra Negra.

Santo Bowl is the contest site. It's on private property in the mountains of Serra Negra.

You will drain your phone battery with the scenery here.

Pause for a #BoardrBoys crew photo. It's Sam Gordon's first trip with us. Welcome to the team.

Vicenzo Damasio on a frontside tailslide in the National Championships. I later got to know him a little better while he was in the streets learning to use a lighter while he was trying to set off bottle rockets. Check the clips in The Boardr Story on Insta.

I had to verify multiple times with multiple people that Pedro Quintas was really just 14. He's got forearm ink and skates like a grown man.

The language barrier is pretty tough here. I don't think this says "free apples."

Sam Gordon just moved to Tampa to work with us the day before we all left for Brazil. He's been chasing waterfalls with us in Brazil but has yet to set foot in HQ in Tampa.

Is that missing rail a skate stopper tactic?

If you like going down fast, this is your town.

Before any fireworks can go off, these 11 year olds need to be taught how to use a lighter.

Anyone with bottle rocket experience knows that when you stuff a bunch into a tight spot like that, they don't take off and blow up on the ground. Now Willy knows.

CJ and his dad took a break from street fireworks to get matching ink. It's CJ's first.

This kid asked Dylan for some stickers and he gave him two decks instead. What followed was a hug so big and deep we can still feel the effects hours later.

Dylan's a pro at Sunday brunch, so being in Brazil isn't going to stop anything. Two bottles of champagne and fresh squeezed local orange juice made for a great pop up brunch on the streets of Serra Negra.

Palm Sunday proceeded through the streets while we sat back and relaxed after work.

Before the airport, we stopped by Murilo's 21st birthday party. Thanks for having us, Murilo!
