10 Things to Prepare for the Blizzard in Florida

Published 1/26/2015 by Rob Meronek

We hope our friends up north are surviving the big white out up there. Down here in Florida, we find ourselves wondering how we'd deal with temperatures plunging below the 70's that they're at during winters here. I put together a few things for a Florida Blizzard survival kit from The Boardr Store. It makes me wanna be barefoot, shirtless, and shameless.

1: Glassy Sunhaters Deric Sunglasses, Color: White, Red Mirror

The first line of Florida defense when it potentially dips below our regular balmy air is a pair of the Derics from Glassy in all snow white. 60 degrees feels so cold I imagine these being snowboard goggles while I push down the sand lined beach streets of Florida. If only we had hills.

2: Santa Cruz Bobba Fett Pintail Complete

This Bobba Fett Pintail Longboard is in there because while y'all are hunkered down under a blanket of snowflakes, I got no shame in pushing down the beach boardwalk shirtless with flip flops under a blanket of sun sipping from a coconut with tiny umbrellas. You know you would be down if you could.

3: Doom Sayers Checkerboard Pom Beanie, Color: Black, White

A pom beanie while barefoot and shirtless during the great 2015 snowmageddon of the north is perfect to help make that Florida heat and sunburn feel more like frostbite. This Checkerboard Doom Sayers Pom Beanie makes me feel like I'm right up north next to you, teeth chattering and toes numb.

4: OJ III Wheels Hot Juice 78A Cruiser Wheels, Color: White Swirl

On that flip flop pusher, these OJ Hot Juice Cruiser wheels in White Swirl are what you need to upgrade to for that rolling through the snow imagination. My feet are getting colder just thinking about them.

5: Creature Doom Curb Wax, Color: Green

If by chance it nosedives into the 50's, you're going to need something like a New York barrel fire to keep warm. This Creature Doom Curb Wax doubles as a candle and suits you for a baby barrel heat source at the skate spot.

6: Spitfire Wheels Burner Bearings

Speaking of burning, keep your wheels hot with Spitfire Burner Bearings, of course.

7: Theories Theoramid Raglan T Shirt, Color: Green, White

Our friends at Theories are probably in a Brooklyn igloo right now. Down here in Florida, we'll add on some extra sleeve and send the warm barefoot flip flip vibes up north with a nice raglan. I think Josh Stewart would roll over in his igloo if he knew I was running the Theoramid Reglan on the beach with my 90 inch wheelbase on that Bobba board.

8: Creature Spirit Shroud Fleece Blanket, Color: Black

After I step off my Titanic roller on the beach, I'm not trying to get any warmer with this Creature Spirit Shroud. I'm laying this down as a beach blanket. You may remember this one also doubles as an accessory in our Homeless Skateboarder Collection.

9: Stance Screaming Hand Socks, Color: Black

I looked high and low in The Boardr Store for gloves, but we have none. I was going to cut off the fingers to air out sweaty Florida palms. Oh well, for staying warm around the baby Florida barrel fire, I'm just going to poke a thumb hole in these Stance Santa Cruz Screaming Hand socks, a perfect fit for Florida blizzard gloves.

10: HUF Plant Life Sleeping Bag, Color: Grey, Lime

And finally, in honor of our freezing friends up north, we'll spend the night on the beach in the HUF Plant Life Sleeping bag with ear to ear grins like Model Bob has under that zip. Don't tell anyone we're using it as a longboard bag, too. Thanks for browsing. Email Help@TheBoardr.com for any questions or other ideas you need to stay warm in Florida.

Five All Black on Black on Black Everything Shoes

Black shoes have always been the most popular in skateboarding. Nothing is 'the new black' except black. Now, black from ankle to ground is one step further, as most black shoes have a white or gum sole. I must admit, I've never gone black to the ground. Maybe it's because it reminds me of my days waiting tables? I don't know, but looking through this list of six supermassive black holes you can put on your feet and shred in has me thinking I might just go for my first pair of black rubber touching black grip.
