Clem's Corner: Skateboarding Needs Copenhagen Pro

Monday, October 7, 2013

I read this article in Time a few years back, where they surveyed people of different nations around the world, and Denmark had the happiest, most content citizens. The country was dubbed 'the happiest place on earth.'

Clem's Corner: America's Most Wanted Tour

Friday, September 27, 2013

My work in skateboarding has offered me some pretty rad opportunities over the years. I've traveled to exotic destinations, I've met all of my childhood heroes, and most recently I hung out with some people that I never thought I would even have the opportunity to meet.

Clem's Corner: Skateboarding in the Smithsonian

Thursday, August 1, 2013

I was part of something pretty damn extraordinary last weekend. It took place at the Smithsonian Institution in our nation’s capital, and was called 'Innoskate.'

Clem's Corner: Betting on Street League

Thursday, August 1, 2013

Before I was awarded the luxury of international travel to the Street League events, back in 2011 I hit up a couple on my own dime just to check them out. This was way before I started writing this column or got the opportunity to announce the Select Series on ESPN3 at the X Games stops.

Clem's Corner: Olympic Glory!

Thursday, August 1, 2013

'Olympics says no to skateboarding,' read the text from a long-time friend and skater. Snowboarding is the toast of the Winter Olympics, but skateboarding just got passed over yet again. (Who do they think invented the half-pipe, lien and method airs, rails, etc?) After we texted back and forth about 20 times, we concluded that we know no more than nothing about the Olympic selection process for sports. (Yes, skateboarding is not a sport, I know.)

Clem's Corner: Marble Ledges and Plastic Pegs

Thursday, August 1, 2013

I was accidentally in the middle of a little bit of trouble in Barcelona. While rolling around MACBA with Jesus Fernandez and Daniel Lebron, some BMXers from out of town showed up and wanted to ride the ledges. I’m assuming they were in Spain for the same reason we were: Street League and X Games. A local skater stepped up and told the bikers they weren’t welcome to ride.

Clem's Corner: Caffeine-Fueled Skateboarding in Barcelona

Thursday, August 1, 2013

Exactly a month ago I was hanging out at a family-style resort in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil. At this very moment I’m sitting in my hotel room at the Barcelo Sants Hotel, overlooking the famous (but now defunct) Sants Train Station skate spot in Barcelona, Spain. Street League has brought me to each of these places. As much as I’ve traveled to skateboarding events over the years, I had never been to Brazil, and this is my first time in Spain. This allows comparisons to be drawn rather easily.

Clem's Corner: Dylan, to Thine Own Self Be True

Thursday, August 1, 2013

Dylan embodies the spirit of staying true to one’s self. I wonder if he’s even aware of it though. The impression I get is that he’s just doing things the way he wants to do them, regardless of the consequences. I have a ton of admiration for anyone that can pull that off and make it look natural.

Clem's Corner: Right in the Heart of Darkness

Thursday, August 1, 2013

Brazilians have been steadily infiltrating skateboarding for about two decades. Maybe there's someone I'm forgetting that came along prior, but I recall Bob Burnquist showing up on the US skate radar on Anti Hero in the early '90s, just blowing minds.

Clem's Corner: Are We There Yet

Thursday, August 1, 2013

Just when you think you have a handle on things, they change. How many Street League contests are there in 2013? Like seven, right? And now they’re all over the world?
